T-Shirt Skirt

If you like adorning yourself with the absolute most comfortable thing on the planet, this is for you.  If you have the attention span of a gnat, this is for you.  And if you are dirt poor, this is for you.  This was by far the cheapest, easiest, most comfortable thing I have ever made for myself.  It was so easy that I made 3-4 of them in less than an hour.

If you made the Easy T-shirt Wrap Bracelet. you still have the bottom half of your t-shirt.  The bigger the better.  I used a man's XL shirt for this one.

There's very little measuring required.  Just cut armpit to armpit on the t-shirt.  The beauty of it is that it doesn't have to be perfect!

If there's a pocket on the tee, simply remove it with a seam ripper.  It won't damage the appearance of the skirt.

With a sewing machine, fold the cutting edge down about an inch (make sure your elastic is not wider than the fold.  I used 3/4 inch elastic) and sew almost all the way around the cutting edge for a waistband, allowing about 1 1/2 inches to slip your elastic in.   You can make sure this is on the wrong side of the fabric by checking the t-shirt hem on the bottom of the fabric.

The waistband edge of the shirt should now look like this.  If you know how to shir, this creates a great waistband too.  I tried this once and it was easy, but it takes practice to get it perfect.

Measure the elastic to fit your waist.  Add about 1 - 1 1/2 inches to the circumference of your waist to get your piece of elastic.  Clip a safety pin on the edge of your elastic to easily guide it through the waistline of the skirt.  Once you're all the way through, overlap the elastic about a half inch and sew securely.  Let it go into the waistband of your skirt and then finish the edge off.

The finished product of the waist should now look like this!
